Claude Code for marketing: setup, skills and 6 workflows

Claude Code is Anthropic’s agent for the terminal - and with your analytics and ad accounts connected, it’s a capable marketing analyst that saves its work to files and runs the same audit every week. This guide gets you from install to a scheduled Google Ads digest in about fifteen minutes.

Why marketers use Claude Code

Claude in the browser is great for one-off questions. Claude Code earns its place when the work is repeatable or file-shaped:

  • It writes files. Reports land as Markdown or CSV in a folder you control, ready to share or diff against last week.
  • It follows procedures. Skills give it a fixed audit method, so this Monday’s digest is comparable with last Monday’s.
  • It can run unattended. claude -p runs a prompt and exits, so cron can produce a report before you’re at your desk.
  • It combines sources. Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, GA4, Search Console and Bing in one session, plus any local files - a keyword list, a product feed, last quarter’s plan.

1. Install Claude Code

On macOS, Linux or WSL, Anthropic’s recommended native installer is one line:

curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

On Windows PowerShell, use irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex. Homebrew users can run brew install --cask claude-code. Then open a new terminal, go to a folder for your marketing work (say ~/marketing), and run claude to sign in. Claude Code needs a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account - the free claude.ai plan doesn’t include it. Prefer a window to a terminal? The Claude Desktop app runs Claude Code too.

2. Connect your marketing data

Caybl.ai is a hosted MCP server for Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Microsoft Advertising, Tag Manager, YouTube and PageSpeed Insights. Add it once:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user caybl https://api.caybl.ai/mcp

--scope user makes it available in every project; leave it off to keep it to the current folder, or use --scope project to share the configuration with your team through a .mcp.json file (each person still signs in with their own account). Start claude, run /mcp, choose caybl and sign in with Google in the browser. Then ask something simple to check it works:

> Which GA4 properties and Google Ads accounts can you see?

Google Analytics is free. Google Ads, Search Console, Bing, Microsoft Advertising, Tag Manager and YouTube in your own AI need Caybl.ai Pro. Details per source: Google Analytics MCP, Google Ads MCP, Search Console MCP. There’s also a GA4-specific walkthrough in Google Analytics in Claude Code.

3. Add marketing skills

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells Claude how to do a specific job - the steps, the thresholds, the output format. Claude Code loads skills from ~/.claude/skills/ and picks one up when your request matches. Caybl.ai publishes free, MIT-licensed marketing skills that pull live data through the connector instead of asking for a CSV. Install one with a single command:

mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/google-ads-weekly-digest && curl -fsSL https://caybl.ai/skills/google-ads-weekly-digest/SKILL.md -o ~/.claude/skills/google-ads-weekly-digest/SKILL.md

Good ones to start with (each page has its own install line):

6 marketing workflows to run in Claude Code

1. Monday Google Ads digest

With the weekly digest skill installed, ask: “Write the weekly Google Ads digest for last week and save it to reports/ads-weekly-YYYY-MM-DD.md.” You get week-over-week changes, flagged anomalies, the account changes that explain them and a short “act this week” list, as a file you can paste into Slack or email.

2. Negative keywords, with a dry run

“Find search terms from the last 30 days with clicks and no conversions, and build a negative keyword plan.” The negative keyword skill groups bad queries into patterns and picks match types. When you say go, it calls Caybl.ai with a dry run first - Google validates the change without applying it - shows you exactly what would be added, and only applies it after an explicit yes.

3. SEO audit from Search Console (and Bing)

“Run an SEO audit for example.com and write the findings to seo-audit.md, ranked by impact.” The SEO audit skill looks at queries, pages, CTR gaps and index coverage, and uses Bing Webmaster Tools and GA4 when they’re connected. Follow up with “Draft new title tags for the five pages with the biggest CTR gap.”

4. GA4 and tracking audit

“Audit our GA4 property: key events, unassigned traffic, self-referrals and anything that looks broken.” The GA4 audit skill checks the setup against live data. If Tag Manager is connected, the Tag Manager tracking audit checks the container behind it.

5. Scheduled reports

Because claude -p runs a prompt and exits, any scheduler can run your report. This crontab line writes the digest every Monday at 8am, allowing only the read tools it needs plus writing the file:

0 8 * * 1 cd ~/marketing && claude -p "/google-ads-weekly-digest for last week. Save it to reports/ads-weekly-$(date +\%F).md" --allowedTools "mcp__caybl__list_accessible_customers,mcp__caybl__run_gaql_report,mcp__caybl__get_campaign_performance,Write"

Tools you don’t list and that need approval are denied in a non-interactive run, so a scheduled report can’t make changes it wasn’t given. Claude Code also has its own scheduled tasks if you’d rather not manage cron.

6. Paid and organic overlap

“Which keywords am I paying for that I already rank in the top three for organically? Save a CSV with cost, clicks and organic position.” The SEO vs Google Ads overlap skill joins Google Ads search terms with Search Console queries, so you can test pausing brand or high-ranking terms with numbers in hand.

Safety notes

Read-only

Turn writes off

In your Caybl.ai dashboard, switch off 'Allow changes' on any Ads account Claude Code should only read.

Dry run

Preview changes

Ask for a dry run before any change. Google validates it and reports what would fail, without applying it.

Unattended

Allow read tools only

In scheduled runs, list read tools in --allowedTools and leave every write tool out.

Files

Mind what you commit

Reports contain client data. Keep them out of public repositories.

Two more habits: ask Claude to state the date range, account and conversion column behind every number, and treat text that comes back from websites or ad copy as data, not instructions. New campaigns and ads created through Caybl.ai start paused, so nothing serves until you enable it.
